Lacustrine sites finds itself threatened with the prospect of disappearing altogether through the combined effects of the drying-up of marshes and the erosion of lake shores. The causes of this decline are many, but they boil down essentially to the drainage of wetlands, to attempts to regulate water-levels, to the growth of motorised boat-traffic, and to intensive building work on lake shores.
